I slept poorly that last night (maybe too much licorice and beer after dinner) and was awake from 1am with nausea and a headache. We got up early to do our final packing and then ja walked us out to the bus stop and we took the fast train to the airport. The fast train was twice as expensive as the slow train but seemed less likely to steal my money.
In the security line both our bags were singled out. The security guy confiscated the razors from my shaving kit and he asked Amanda about the tools she was carrying.
"Tools?"
"No tools."
"Tools?"
"No."
He opened her bag and took out two crescent wrenches she'd accidentally stolen from ja's shed. He took them away and sent our bags back through the detector but when Amanda picked up her backpack she discovered he'd put the wrenches back into the bag and they'd failed to notice them the second time through. We took them home.
We caught a plane to Copenhagen and then spent a horrible 4.5 hour layover in the airport, followed by another 2 hours delay because the plane was late, a further delay because the cleaning crew had to do a big job, and another because the technicians had to replace a tire sensor. We finally left the airport 2.5 hours late and when we arrived in SF they weren't ready for us so we sat on the tarmac for another 30min. Our conservatively scheduled 8:15pm shuttle left the airport while we waited for our luggage to appear at the baggage claim.
I felt nauseous the entire trip so I avoided eating. The airline served two meals. The dinner was salmon lasagna with dill pickled beets and other pickled vegetables. I hate dill and pickles and the smell made me feel ill. The second meal was what I thought was breakfast with orange juice and scrambled eggs but it was more pickled dill and dill covered macaroni. I returned the whole platter untouched.
We were still waiting for our shuttle when Kayla sent us a message that she'd left early and was already home but somehow their freezer had been accidentally switched off in the 100 degree heat and was filled with rotten and maggoty meat.
We caught the next shuttle back to Monterey at 9:30pm. While we waited Amanda went off to get a free covid test and they gave her a take home kit.
We arrived in Monterey and walked back to the apartment at midnight and got to bed that night at 1am looking forward to a few hours of sleep before work in the morning.
