I make this all the time but when I realized I've developed a specific method that works well I decided to write it down.


Total Preparation Time

Total preparation time is < 10min

  • Gathering ingredients - 2min
  • Popping corn - 10min

Ingredients

  • Popcorn - 1/2 cup
  • Flavicol or salt - 1 teaspoon (5ml)
  • Powdered sugar - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Oil - 1-2 tablespoons (15-30ml)

Method

  1. Get the biggest pot and put it on a burner at the highest setting
  2. Add the oil and three kernels
  3. Collect the other ingredients
  4. When the three kernels pop, turn off the heat, add the rest of the kernels, and wait 30sec
  5. Put the pot back on the burner at nearly max heat
  6. Tuck an oven mitt under the lid to make a gap large enough to let out steam but not kernels
  7. Shake until all the kernels pop
  8. Take it off the heat, wipe down the lid and sides of the pot with a rag to soak up the condensation
  9. Add the salt and sugar
  10. Shake for a while as the sugar and salt melt and coat the kernels
  11. Pour into a bowl.
