Apple Pie

Nothing special, just an apple pie recipe. I prefer pie over cake, cold pie over hot pie, and I hate vanilla ice cream. Anyone who disagrees is banned from my site. Banned I say!

Requires two pie crust rounds

Total Preparation Time

Total preparation time is ~120min

  • peeling and slicing apples - 30min
  • baking bottom crust - 15min
  • assembly - 5min
  • baking - 60min

Ingredients

  • Sugar - 1 cup (215g)
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml)
  • Apples - 5-6 cups
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Sliced almonds - 1/4 cup (40g) (uncertain) (optional)
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml)
  • Uncooked pie crusts - 2
  • Flour or corn starch (optional - used to thicken apple mixture) - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Butter (optional) - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Coarse sugar (optional) - a pinch

Method

  1. Put one pie crust in the pie plate, score the bottom, and bake at 400F (200C) until it picks up some color (~15min)
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples. I usually cut them into wedges 1cm thick.
  3. Mix apples with lemon juice, sugar, almonds, salt, cinnamon, pour into baked bottom crust
  4. Optionally dot the apples with butter
  5. Cover with other pie crust, crimp the sides, poke holes in the top
  6. Sprinkle top crust with coarse sugar
  7. Preheat oven to 450F (230C) with a tray to catch any drippings
  8. Bake at 450F (230C) 10min
  9. Bake at 350F (175C) 40-50min
